1. Halloween
This app offers a little bit of everything to coincide with Halloween. It offers a daily countdown until the the scariest day of the year, as well as Halloween Trivia, Halloween Backgrounds for your phone, and costume ideas. Additionally, this app includes scary sounds in three different formats.
The Halloween app has simple sounds, such as a witch, a scream, a ghost, etc., as well as music loops of Halloween sound mixes, i.e. Haunted House and Werewolf Forest. Also included are ringtones of some very recognizable movie themes, including the original Halloween film and Psycho. While the app is free, to get some of the features, you are required to upgrade for $.99.
2. Hallowe’en
This app is all about the sounds. While it offers basic ringtones and sounds, what makes it a specially fun app is the ability to set the sounds on random. This means you can set them to play on your phone, then set it down and have it play random scary sounds at different time intervals. It would be a great way to scare your friends, as well as a great accompaniment close to your front door to scare the trick-or-treaters.
3. Scary Button
This app, too, is all about the sounds, but what separates these sounds is that they aren’t your standard G-rated sounds. These are definitely scary and sound like something you’d hear in a scary movie as you’re peering between your hands because you just can’t stand to watch or not watch. The sounds include Eerie Feeling and Possessed Dog.
4. Paranormal State
Much of this app depends on if you’re a believer or not. It’s a companion app to the A&E television series, Paranormal State. It uses an EMF reader that is supposedly just like the ones used on all the ghost-hunting shows. You can walk around your house and look for paranormal activity. I tried to debunk its validity, but couldn’t. The graphic above shows what was happening in a bedroom in my home. It got stronger after that. It next showed up in the garage, but only for short bits. I didn’t find it anywhere else in the house until I went in another bedroom. It showed strong there as well, and going back in the other bedroom turned up nothing. It actually appeared to be following me.
5. True Ghost Stories
Just in case what’s going on in my own home didn’t frighten me enough, this app tells “true” ghost stories. You can both read stories that are updated weekly, and can also listen to audio stories. These stories aren’t terribly long, but are just long enough to scare you and leave you wanting to read or hear more. Updating the app for $.99 will net you daily new content. These apps will provide plenty of scares for both you and your friends and family. They don’t have to be used just in the month of October, either, as they’ll provide enough fright throughout the calendar year.
