If you’re on the app and would like to impress your friends by sharing DIY stickers, follow us in this guide as we show you how you can make your own.
Prepare Your Image
The first step is to prepare the image you wish to transform into a shareable sticker. Start by removing the picture’s background. While this is not a requirement, the resulting sticker will look better if you do go ahead and create a transparent background for your image. For the purpose of this tutorial we are using the Pixlr suite of apps, but you can use whichever photo-editing software you have at your disposal. You can access them on your desktop computer or your Android device via your mobile browser.
- Go to “Remove BG” (via the menu at the top).
- Open your image by pressing on the purple button.
- Wait for the program to do its thing.
- Once the process is done, press the “Download” button on the right side of the screen to save the new image to your device.
- Select “Pixrl X” from the menu bar above, which is their quick and easy editor. Telegram recommends using 512 x 512 images for sticker creation, so we are resizing the image using these parameters.
- Upload your image using the “Open image” button.
- Click on “Crop & Rotate,” then input the width and height.
- Arrange the rectangular crop box so that it frames the subject properly.
- When you’re done, click on the Apply button.
- Save the image to your device as a PNG. Now that your image is ready, move on to the sticker creation phase. You’ll need to open Telegram on your device to proceed. Note that you can do this operation using the mobile app as well as the desktop app. If you’ve used your computer to edit the image and don’t feel like transferring it to your phone, you can simply fire Telegram up on your PC and work from there. It’s up to you. If you need help making the transfer, we recommend that you check our previous article which describes a few methods to move files fast.
- Open Telegram on your device. 2 Tap on the magnifying glass in the upper-right corner of the display and search for “Stickers.”
- Tap on the bot to start a conversation with it.
- Type in the command /start to kickstart the sticker creation process.
- The Sticker bot will introduce itself and display a list of available commands to interact with it.
- Input the /newpack command.
- Select a name for your sticker pack.
- The bot will ask you to send the image you’ve prepared while listing the details we’ve already covered in the previous section.
- Tap on the attachment icon in the bottom-left corner, then select File (not Image) and tap on the picture.
- Send the image and allow Telegram to check it.
- Once it receives approval, the bot will ask you to send an emoji that corresponds to your sticker. Note that it has to be an emoji and not a sticker from Telegram’s own database.
- All that’s left to do is to publish the sticker by sending the /publish command. You can set an icon for your sticker pack, but you can skip this step if you wish by using /skip to go directly to the next step.
- Select a name for your stickerpack.
- There you have it! You just created your sticker pack. Tap on the link provided by the bot to view your sticker pack and start sharing it with friends directly or via the link. Alternatively, you can quickly share the sticker with the bot to make it easily accessible in your Telegram chats. To access it in a conversation, tap on the sticker button in the lower left part of the display. Now that you’ve made your first sticker, you can go back to the bot and create as many as you want by using the /addsticker command.
