Air Charge offers effortless wireless charging solutions that can change that. Instead of worrying about where your charging cable is, you can simply sit your device on top of a flat surface to charge it. Besides the cable needed to power the charging device, you won’t need any others. Air Charge has a few solutions to choose from such as their Wireless Charging Valet Tray and their Wireless Charging Task Light. Each one gives you a beautiful and unique way to charge just about any modern mobile device. I had the honor of trying out their Wireless Surface Charger and I must say, it was a pleasure to use. Best of all, two of our lucky readers will get a chance to win one of their own.
Setting Up the Wireless Surface Charger
The Wireless Surface Charger comes with quite a few things in the box:
Wireless surface charger unit2m USB cableClamp for fixing the unit to work surfaceScrews and Allen key for securing the clampCable tidy clipsUser manual
Note: If you’d rather use a plug to power your charger, instead of a USB slot on your computer, you can order a USB plug separately. Lucky for you, our two winners will get a USB plug of their own. The Wireless Surface Charger is made to fit a hole in any work surface, such as a standard desk grommet. You’ll need to be sure that the hole you use is 80mm; anything smaller will not fit and anything too much larger will fall right through. The desk that I tested it on had a smaller grommet hole (seems to be around 60mm) so, unfortunately, the Wireless Surface Charger would not fit. If you’re handy and creative, I’m sure you can think of something to remedy this if you fall into the same situation. You’ll also want to be sure that the attached cable will be able to reach a USB slot on your computer (or an outlet if you purchase the USB plug). Once you have the Wireless Surface Charger in place, you can secure it with the provided steel plate clamp using the appropriate length bolt (also included). Instructions for securing it on any flat surface are provided in detail in the video below. Now that you have it secured and plugged in, you’re ready to start using your new surface charger.
The Wireless Surface Charger in Action
The way you use the Wireless Surface Charge depends on the type of device you have. If you have a Qi-enabled device, you’re in luck. This means your phone is capable of being charged wirelessly and all you have to do is lay it on top of the Wireless Surface Charger. If your phone is not Qi-enabled, there’s still hope. Air Charge also has a Wireless Charging Receiver that can be used to charge your Qi-less device. The receiver includes Apple 30-pin, Lightning and Micro-USB connectors. All you have to do is find the one that fits your device and attach it. Then you can set the receiver on top of the Wireless Surface Charger to start charging your device. There are two green lights on the receiver that will illuminate to verify it’s working properly. Although this receiver is sold separately, our two winners will each receive one of these as well. Lastly, if you have an iPhone 5, Air Charge also offers a stylish Wireless Charging Case just for that device. There is no word on compatibility with other iPhone models. Once you put it on your iPhone 5, you’ll be able to charge it wirelessly by laying it on top of the Wireless Surface Charger (yes, our two winners will also receive one of these cases).
Final Thoughts
Even though I’m a little disappointed that the Wireless Surface Charger didn’t fit my current desk, it’s definitely not a deal-breaker. If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to charge your device at home, work or anywhere else, this is a great device to have. It’s not just convenient, it looks cool too. Plus, if you have a friend or client over, they can easily charge their devices as well. So it’s not just great for you, but it can also come in handy for friends and family.
